dr. david awuor is the kenyan version of john the baptist, a good disciple of jonah at best. his message has been clear to the nairobians, ‘repent for earthquake destruction is nigh’. the christian god has vowed to take revenge on the sin city. his anger is full to the brim for ‘his men and women’ have desecrated his altar, the prophecy says.

typical nairobians have dismissed the harsh judgment and other than getting chilled when the footage of the prophecy was aired, they have gone back to their ’life as usual’ routines.

the professor of molecular biology turned prophet is however getting audience than any other ‘prophet’ before. the men of the cloth who are used to brushing off such messages are sending clear signals that nairobians need to heed to the professor’s message of repent and perish – apparently there is no ‘or’ in his message. sober evangelicals and pentecostal clergy like my nairobi pentecostal pastor david oginde have turned somber at the message.

apparently, his previous prophecies have come to pass. these include the katrina mess in the usa – texas is included in his current warning - the drought and famine in the east african region - the lord showed him mounds of carcasses all over the region - and the tsunami that hit the coast of many countries to the start of year 2005 among others. as expected no one can remember his prior warnings as they were not aired in the press.

he has had audience with the president in the past and with his instructions, last year’s day of national prayer, which was declared a national holiday was held. he has had meetings with top kenyan clergy and warned them of god’s anger in their wayward ways. the top bishops declared several days of communal prayer and fasting culminating in an interdenominational day of prayer at uhuru park. i can remember such invites in church, but no specifics about the exact day the prayers were announced. i did not participate either, i am a skeptical nairobian.

according to the nairobi university, makerere and israeli trained professor of medicine, those events of national repentance did not sway the lord’s anger as they were insincere. therefore the impending earthquake doom that will flatten several nairobi buildings, a calamity that will shock the world is inevitable. no matter what nairobians do, it will happen. that’s where the prophecy fails the test, according to various bible pastors and theologians. the lord of israel always gave options, ‘turn away from your sin and i will forgive’ a repent or perish attitude.

i have grown in the midst of overly charismatic christians and in my opinion he is one of the most sober prophets i have seen in church. he has done his best to communicate his message to all and sundry in a sober manner despite its oddness. what i have seen as prophets before other than the false ‘end-of-the-world’ ‘prophets, is the incoherent ramblings of ‘spirit-inebriated prophets’ under seizure during a ‘worship’ service in church.

coincidentally and unrelated, it was just the other day as the year started i flipped channels and landed on family tv where a certain college principal turned prophetess was delivering a four-hour judgment prophecy on kenya, a message from the lord. i was patient enough to listen to it for one hour, quite sober, documented though chilling. as a christian who has read the bible severally it was scaring and didn’t wait for it to end.

it is interesting to note that a week earlier, the metrological department had issued a warning to some sections in the rift valley to beware and prepared as they had detected signs of an impending earthquake in the region.

all the same, as a skeptic like many other nairobians, i doubt whether there is much i will input towards the prophecies than just a casual critique of the same. maybe a little bit soul cleanup exercise would help, just in case. the bad part of it is that there is no escape from the judgment, just like jonah told the ninevans ‘nairobians are doomed without recourse’. later jonah was to quarrel jehovah for heeding to the sack cloth repentance of nineveh.

nairobi may have the chance according to jonah if they repent. “i knew that you are a gracious and compassionate god, slow to anger and abounding in love, a god who relents from sending calamity”, says jonah.

the proof of a prophecy is time. though the prophet who abandoned his medicine and cancer research career in 2002 to ‘serve the lord’ has not given a timeline, his earlier predictions had come to pass in a span of months, he claims. his soon was a month in the case of katrina. we will know the fallacy or truthfulness of his prophecy in the course of the year in earth below or heaven above, wherever we will be. at least this one is documented.

chris mwebesa, ceo, nairobi stock exchange, has finally acted to avoid more complains about the 'black' nse website. a new site is being developed at this location and looks like it can go live anytime.

great improvement in layout, colour and content. It looks more professional and serious. the archival sections are a good enhancement, we can drill back to past uploads. however it still needs more enhancements to take its rightful role in investment and market information provision. this role has been taken over by stockskenya, eight.co.ke, nairobist, propertykenya , investinginafrica, jijini, stock-detective, hisanetafrica and such like emergents.

the price tickertape needs to be longer, slower and should stream live prices (eight.co.ke have done 15 minutes delay why not nse with 1 minute delay). investors need more historical prices, if possible, since nse started! the charting capabilities of the site need to be improved. listed companies' financial information need to be more comprehensive. the latest nse handbook and nse magazine should be availed online even if on subscription basis. then, we can move on to other demands.

kudos chris mwebesa, but ensure it is updated frequently and consistently. we look forward to the day we will follow live trading at the trading floor from the site. lastly, nse shouldn't wait for another five years to catch up with technology, it should adopt a continuous improvement approach to technological trends. mention my name to jimnah mbaru, tell him in such and such a place there exists one jp. that, will make my day.

i have met know-it-alls (wajuaji) who really piss me not only with their conversation dominance but also their claim to have authority over all topical issues in the world. most of these happen to be accountants and notoriously practicing auditors. be it herbal medicine, agriculture, geography, politics et al, it is hard for them to admit there could be any other expert in these fields than them when it comes to debate.

let me honour my good pals in these fields by attempting to answer some of the ridiculous and not so ridiculous google searches that have been directed to my blog, courtesy of blogpatrol, though it hangs most of the time.

what animals are weak?
none after second thought. mosquito kills more than hiv does and have made all nairobians vegetarians in a week since it spreads rift valley fever. it's hard to catch a fly. it takes a month to make a snail 'melt' using salt. you can't kill a flea using one finger. a spider can reincarnate you in less than a dozen hours. those are among the smallest. what about the whale, the elephant and the man eaters of tsavo?

stock leaps manipulation
i refer to nairobi stock exchange which i know. at times brokers just decide they don't want a stock that is less than 20 bob and the next day the cheapest is 50 bob, thanks to their magic. or if they want to offload a million shares, they use 100,000 to triple the price in a week, sell the 900,000 the next week and by the third week the stock has gone down 300%. etc.

how trading was done before online trading at the nairobi stock exchange
correction, trading is not fully online at the nse, it is still rudimentary online. before that, there was the open outcry system where brokers would shout their orders and prices (bids and offers) which were written down on a central board. price matching was manual and most of the time was craftily negotiated by both brokers on the floor before the bid and offer was announced to the arbiter who wrote the deal on the board. shares were issued in certificate form and had to be verified by respective company registrars before one could sell or transfer ownership. then came the central depository system with its shares immobilization process in 2004 enabling electronic storage of shares and in 2006 came the automated trading system, which you were referring to as online trading. bado kufikia kiwango cha online trading!

what are the hot buys in the nairobi stock exchange.
point of order. nse stocks are neither hot nor cold. you can confirm with bankelele, coldtusker, gathinga, hisagal, pesatu, ribacapital or odengle onyang.

nairobi stock exchange boom
the boom is still there, no sign that the boom will go away soon and the market crashes.
on a different note, please refer to death of a stock broker.
by the way, caveat emptor! read the referenced post between the lines, it's now more real than imagined.
