Stella Kilonzo was confirmed yesterday (15th July 2008) as the CEO of Capital Markets Authority (CMA) by president Kibaki. She has been acting in that position since December 2007. She has survived the sharks that rein the Kenya stock market and in her brief stint, she has shown that CMA can indeed bite. I hope she has not and will not be compromised and will improve investor confidence in the market.

Hopefully with full mandate, she will move in with speed to correct the glaring anomalies in broker operations that leave Kenyan investors conned of their hard earned savings and loans. Being a young turk and teaming up with Chris Mwebesa the CEO of Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) who was also recently confirmed, they should infuse new energy, ideas and styles of management in the capital markets that will see the NSE rise to new heights internationally.

Who is this Stella Kilonzo, could she be daughter to former Police Commissioner Philip Kilonzo and sister to current Yatta MP Kilonzo. If she is this is just another example of nepotism where which the Kenyan eating upper class has perfected.

I think she is. She was raised in affluence, of course with money that her father stole through corruption. Kilonzo was especially noted for his corrupt ways and subservience to President Moi. He played a role in Ouko's murder and countless other evil deeds that the Kenyan police undertook during Moi's era. Now Kilonzo's children are reaping huge. His son is a MP and daughter a CEO at CMA. When will the have-nots who have toiled through thick and thin be rewarded in Kenya? Has Kenya become a dynastic feudal society where your station in life is determined by your family background? Look at our government. Odinga, the PM is son to Odinga the former VP; Kenyatta, deputy PM son to Kenyatta former President; Mudavadi deputy PM son to Mudavadi former senior Minister. What the shit is this? It is the time the proletariat rose up and said No to this feudalism!!

anon, I have no idea about her background. Interesting if true she is Philip Kilonzo's daughter. I think she has earned has seat if her six months CEO acting capacity stint is anything to go by.

tukomboe nchi yetu, there are numerous successful Kenyans even in government who do not have a pedigree worth talking about. Stella, Raila, Uhuru and Mudavadi is just one side of the statistics. It is also all about opportunities and networks and if yours are better you don't sit down and wait for others to bypass you. These are the fruits of democracy and capitalism, we asked for it.

I think it'd be a good idea to gauge her on her performance so far.
Misplaced prejudices and senseless fitina is what has broken this country.
Merit my friends, is what really matters. If she can do the job and do it well, I don't give a small damn what her name is. As an investor, all I care about is my money at NSE.

it's sad when people can't look past their own noses and recognize ability and talent. I have known Stella for quiet a while and I can tell you she is a go getter. She has the drive and potential to achieve goals set out to better our country's financial state. So please soar people give it up, stop rumours and focas on the big picture. Congrats Stella keep up the GREAT WORK!!!!!!

No, Stella was my neighbor in Rubia/Langata. Humble folks they were and I use to visit their home many times, and she would come to my house to visit many times. Just happened to be @ the right time at the right place. She dated Moi's daughters' partners when they worked @ Corner house in Nairobi. Maybe that opened up some doors.
